SEMAFX is a cute little acronym for a rather awkward and long title: "Southeast Michigan Animation and Visual Effects (Network)". Yah, SEMAFX is easier.

Scott Paul Dunham got this ball rolling back in April, 1998 with a small group getting together at TeleVideo Studios... we think about 8 people showed up. But then, each month we grew and expanded til we had over 100 local artists meeting to share their knowledge and ideas- and to improve the "State of Their Art!"

SEMAFX meets monthly to create a powerful networking opportunity for all artists. We have a strong veteran corps, and invite newcomers and young people to join us. Mentoring is a strong tenet of SEMAFX. If you can't share, teach or inform, SEMAFX will be tough on you! But imagine everything you GIVE coming back to you TEN FOLD! We are dedicated to promoting our fellow local artists and building a strong professional community where we share, discuss, inspire and promote our Craft. We hone our skills and help others, so that together as a community, we can promote our entire region to any industry in the world.
Detroit has a strong, vibrant visualization talent pool. SEMAFX's goal is to bring us together, so we can generate new opportunities for our creative community. And we'll have FUN while we're doing it!
